On our way to Kapalua, I made Coty stop for dessert at Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop where they say they serve “glorified grandma comfort food.” Top Chef Season 10 finalist, Chef Sheldon Simeon, was once at the helm of this eating establishment.
Just don’t drive too fast while on the scenic stretch of Honoapiilani Highway, as you may miss this gem in west Maui. Located next to the Olowalu General Store, this roadside restaurant was named after the grandmother of one of its co-owners.
The atmosphere is casual, with the place usually bustling with tourists and locals alike. Though the line sometimes goes out their front door, don’t let that deter you from staying in line. The line moves rather quickly. And on that particular day that Coty and I visited, we were offered samples of their home brewed iced tea.
The reclaimed wood panel walls, metal bar stools give it a rustic, southern country charm.
Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop offers filling meal options such as sandwiches, burgers, hoagies, hot dogs, and salads. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Too full to try any of their savory offerings, we opted to try their Kula Lavender crème brulee and macadamia nut chocolate praline pie. At 5 inches in diameter, these pies are meant for sharing. That way, you can sample a variety of pies with your friends.
We could really taste the lavender in the Kula Lavender crème brulee.
The mac nut choc praline pie, topped with chocolate curls, satisfied our craving for a chocolate dessert.
And oh, if you’re not able to visit Maui anytime soon, you can always try recreating one of their famous pies, the banana cream pie.
