2014: Year In Review

In 2014, Exploration: Hawaii morphed into something different. We continued with the outdoor adventures that we’ve become known for, but also began focusing a lot more on photography, food, and cultural-related festivals and events. Of course, we still found time to explore the outer islands, which included outings to Kauai, Lanai, Molokai, Maui, and the Big Island.

Marvin hiked the iconic Kalalau Trail on the island of Kauai, and ate nothing but SPAM. Fortunately, he also packed a tripod and was able to capture some amazing night shots.

Joel spent a few days on Molokai at the Kalaupapa Settlement, a rare and special opportunity. His posts on this unique experience has been in the pipeline for some time now. Maybe we’ll be able to read about it and see his photos in 2015? [It’s actually done. I’ve seen and I’ve read it. We just need to post it.]

I finally got to visit the tiny island of Lanai. I can highly recommend Lanai as a “get away from it all” island destination. I’d like to revisit Lanai in 2015, there are still a few things that I would like to check out there.

Michelle became our latest regular blogger. You might have noticed her luxurious afternoon tea posts.

Also, congratulations to the most Thai member of Exploration: Hawaii, Ahnate, who concluded his graduated studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa by earning his Ph.D. He is now Dr. Ahnate to you.

Adventure, photography, food, and travel. That’s our focus and those are the things that drive us. Expect more of all of that in the new year. Cheers to an amazing 2015.
