In 2014, Exploration: Hawaii morphed into something different. We continued with the outdoor adventures that we’ve become known for, but also began focusing a lot more on photography, food, and cultural-related festivals and events. Of course, we still found time to explore the outer islands, which included outings to Kauai, Lanai, Molokai, Maui, and the Big Island.
After having a wonderful dinner at Nobu at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay, we decided to catch the complementary Four Seasons shuttle back to the Lodge at Koele. It was a chilly November night. What better way to enjoy the rest of the evening than with late night hot chocolate, in the the Lodge’s Great Hall, next to the fireplace.
Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s Nobu on Lanai opened less than two years ago at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay. Celebrity chef and restaurateur, Chef Matsuhisa, is known for his new style Japanese cuisine, which fuses traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients. He’s also considered to be a favorite of Lanai’s majority owner, Larry Ellison. The co-founder and CEO of Oracle, and fifth richest man in the world, owns 97 percent of the island. I’ve dined at Nobu Honolulu before, but this would be my first time experiencing the Manele Bay location.
Michelle and I recently had the chance to spend some time on the island of Lanai for the first time. We would make the Four Seasons, The Lodge at Koele our retreat for Thanksgiving weekend. We wanted to leave the minutiae of the Thanksgiving holiday behind and simply enjoy each others company with maximum relaxation and no stress. It worked. The pine-filled island of Lanai, and the The Lodge at Koele made that happen.
